| What a hideous monstrosity this is! who ever thought this one up should be sectioned!
In the early 90's Stagecoach operated a real Routemaster in the stripey livery with 'Blue Bus' fleetnames, if I remember correctly, it was used in the early days of the City sight seeing tours, and made appearences at the Metro Centre Rally, and the Busways Rally at St James Park around 1994. perhaps they should have re-acquired it!

| The routemaster was lettered for Blue Bus Tours, it was hired from another Stagecoach operation as blue bus tours only had open top vehicles, and no cover for rainy days... |

| The real Routemaster was ALM24B, (ex RM2024), and it was on loan to the Newcastle City Tour route between June 96 to Sept 96.
It came from Cumberland Motor Services, where it was numbered 901, and was in the original Stagecoach Stripey livery, with Blue Bus Fleetnames. The vehicle made an appearence at the Busways Rally at St James (the football park's car park) in that year.
Some years earlier, Go Ahead Northern operated two ex London Routemasters (in London livery) for a short period, to see if it would be feasable to re-introduce crew operation. Alas! it was not to be. |

| Finally at long last 20258 has had a fresh coat of paint. 20258 of 558 as it was then was the first bus in Hartlepool Depot to be painted and 33488 was second. It was also painted at Stockton Paintshop rather than Wheatsheaf but noe there is only one paintshop rather than 2, to save money as usual, also if you noticed before it was painted it still marks of 558 on the back. |

| I caught one of these the other day and I thought it handled the route well tho the outer bodywork was poor. It looked like it had taken a few hits on the bumper (perhaps on the tight turns?) The paintwork was a bit substandard too
Noticed the Designline's have had a refurb inside, they've been 'Stagecoached' for want of a better word.
One last thing...is Quaylink not easy access guaranteed? |

| The driver here is a example of a modern bus driver, he's making a negative gesture to the photographer! All too often these days, one comes across this sort of nonsense quite frequently. Whilst appreciating that there are very many drivers (and other staff) who actively or passively support the hobby, there are always some who are against the grain.
Bus drivers (and other transport workers) should realise that there are and will always be people interested in transport operations, and who will always take photographs, wether they like it or not!
I would be interested to know who operates this bus service, is it Northumberland County Council?
The lack of historical knowledge is very evident here, as the bus is named 'Spartacus' who was a Thracian (Greek) Gladiator who led a successfull revolt against the Roman Republic in the first Century BC, and thus has no connection with Hadrians Wall. The wall was built by Hadrian's Legions in AD122 (hence the route number) nearly three hundred or so years after Spartacus. It would be more suitable perhaps to name the vehicle after one of the Forts along the wall. Why can't these companies do their research properly? if they make an obvious mistake like this, what else do they get wrong? It's most annoying-Grrrr! |

| Its great to see a lot of response to my comments here, and very shortly after making my initial comments about this vehicle, I found out it was specially done for Breast Cancer awareness.
And yes I know it's a very worthy cause, also don't forget that men can get it as well. It isn't a thing that is unique to females. I have donated to this charity on several occasions, and have worn a pink ribbon from time to time. Blokes are always surprised, when they comment on this, and they then find out that men can get it as well.
The thing that really annoys me, is why charities (such as this and the Air Ambulance) have to rely on ad hoc donations at all? These worthwhile organisations should be part and parcel of the medical services anyway. The social infrastructure in Country is SO wrong! |
